Jeffrey J. Moorley BA, J.D.
Serious injury cases in Northwestern Ontario are different.
Highways are long and remote.
Winter conditions change quickly.
Commercial transport is constant.
Access to medical specialists is limited.
I have lived in Northwestern Ontario my entire life, aside from leaving for law school (JD, Queen’s, 2014.) I know the highways. I know the communities. I know the medical landscape. And I understand the realities people here face when a collision or disability disrupts their lives.
I represent individuals and families across Thunder Bay and the broader Northwest in complex injury and insurance disputes.
Focused on Serious Motor Vehicle & Highway Litigation
My practice focuses on substantial and complex injury claims, including:
- Impaired and dangerous driving collisions
- Tractor-trailer and commercial vehicle negligence
- Highway and winter maintenance claims / municipal and provincial roadway liability
- Catastrophic injury litigation
- Disability insurance denial
These files demand preparation, patience, and strategy.
They require early evidence preservation, expert coordination, and disciplined positioning from the outset.
I approach every serious file with that mindset.
Depth Beyond Routine Claims
In addition to complex personal injury matters, I have acted in high-profile and legally intricate cases involving:
- Aviation liability
- Defamation disputes
- Commercial and occupiers’ liability claims involving significant public attention
These matters required careful evidence development, strategic communication management, and comfort operating under scrutiny.
That experience informs how I manage serious injury files where reputational, financial, and evidentiary stakes are high.
Depth in Psychological & Trauma-Based Claims
My background in psychology (BA, Lakehead, 2010) and years of litigation experience allow me to work effectively with psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, and psychotherapists.
I regularly advance claims involving:
- PTSD
- Major depressive disorder
- Anxiety and trauma disorders
- Psychological disability
- Traumatic brain injury with psychological overlay
- Chronic pain syndromes
Psychological injuries are often misunderstood and under-evaluated. They require careful expert development, strategic presentation, and a trauma-informed approach.
I am comfortable working in that space and coordinating with local and regional medical experts.
Knowledge of the Northern Medical & Legal Landscape
Litigating serious injury claims in Northwestern Ontario requires familiarity with:
- Regional hospitals and referral patterns
- Local and out-of-town specialists
- Travel realities for treatment and assessment
- Cultural considerations in rural and Indigenous communities
- Commercial transport patterns unique to the North
I have built professional relationships across this region and understand how to navigate its practical constraints.
Disability & Insurance Disputes
When disability benefits are denied, the consequences can be immediate and destabilizing.
I act in disputes involving:
- Long-term disability denials
- Complex psychological disability claims
- Pre-existing condition allegations
- Income replacement and accident benefits disputes
I prepare these files as if they will be tested.
Approach
I act exclusively for injured individuals.
I prepare deliberately.
I anticipate defence strategy early.
I build expert support methodically.
I position cases for meaningful resolution — or trial — from the beginning.
Serious harm requires serious advocacy.
