Jeff Moorley BA, J.D.
Jeff’s mission is to help people from Northern Ontario recover what is owed to them from insurance companies. His practice focuses on motor vehicle collisions, occupiers’ liability (e.g., falls), dog bites, and insurance denials (e.g., auto, accident benefits, homeowners, life, disability, accidental death).
Jeff’s roots in Northern Ontario date back to the 1910s, when his family settled in Quibell, a railway stop just north of Vermillion Bay, on the CN line in Treaty 3.
As a lawyer, and in his previous career as a wildland fire ranger for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Jeff’s work has taken him all across Northern Ontario – from Kenora to Temiskaming Shores, and from Fort Frances to Fort Severn.
Before law school, Jeff graduated from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Arts Psychology degree. He earned multiple academic awards and was the highest-ranking graduate in both his year and program. He then earned his Juris Doctor law degree from Queen’s University.
Since 2013, Jeff has helped people in Northern Ontario who have been injured through no fault of their own or who have had their insurance benefits wrongly denied. He understands that his clients are often going through what may be the most challenging time of their lives. Jeff gets a great deal of satisfaction out of guiding his clients through these times and seeing their successful reintegration into our community. Witnessing these positive changes motivates Jeff to achieve the best outcome for his clients.
Jeff has coached Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law team in the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) Cup — a province-wide personal injury mock jury trial – since the law school began competing in that moot (2016). The team has won multiple awards and contributed to the law school’s reputation for producing strong advocates. In 2024, Jeff was awarded Lakehead’s Exceptional Alumni Award for this work.
In 2024, Jeff was elected to be the Northwest director of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association – an association of over 1,400 lawyers and clerks with a mandate to fearlessly champion, through the pursuit of the highest standards of advocacy, the cause of those who have suffered injury or injustice.
Jeff believes it is vital that we work towards reconciliation and honouring the fact that we are all treaty people. In 2018, he helped author the Guide for Lawyers Working with Indigenous Peoples – a project that emerged from Call to Action 27 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to ensure that lawyers receive cultural competency training.
When possible, Jeff loves to head outdoors with his young family and enjoy the world-class natural beauty that Northern Ontario has to offer.
